Our rock and mineral group does a Rock, Gem & Mineral Show every October. At the Kid’s Corner, we give away polished rocks. They get an egg carton and get to choose 12 rocks to fill it with. We’re asked to provide about 50 small, polished rocks per year.
I’ve been tumbling Lake Superior Agates and Petoskey Stones to donate and quite a few of them end up much too small.
I finally settled on something I could do with these little chips of stones.
I printed out a licensed outline of Michigan, used carbon paper to trace it onto the painted back cover of a 6×8-inch shadow box picture frame, and glued Petoskey Stones to the lower peninsula, Lake Superior Agates to the upper peninsula, and two tiny Isle Royale Greenstones to Isle Royale.
Actually, I asked my Dad to arrange the stones first because he’s a pro-puzzler and then I glued in all the rocks.
